The word “Trust”, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, means “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something”. In other words, when you trust you are relying on or placing confidence in a friend, a situation, an object or a higher-being. From a Christian perspective, trusting God signifies firmly believing in the ability and effectiveness of God to do anything for you.

What does God say about trust?
One of the most famous Bible verses about trusting God is Proverbs 3:5, in which King Solomon urges all believers to trust God with all our hearts and to never rely on our own way of thinking. Jesus Himself said in multiple instances in the Bible (i.e. Matthew 6:25, Mark 5:36, John 14:1) to not worry about your life, but to trust in God and in Him.

Using the website BlueLetterBible.org, we found that the word “trust” appears 134 times in 134 verses in the King James Version Bible KJV). The reference “trust in God” occurs 7 times in 7 verses in the New Living Translation Bible (NLT)

How can I fully trust God?
You could use these two practical Biblical Strategies to fully trust God:

1. Don’t depend on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5): Make an intentional decision to place your complete confidence in the directions you receive from God via the Scripture, dreams and revelations, and/or a spiritual counselor. This means, among other things, read the Bible and follow His Word; pray, praise & worship Him in the comfort of your room an be open for revelations through His Holy Spirit; or talk to a spiritual counselor who can help you understand the ways of God.

2. Stop worrying and start praying (Philippians 4:6-7): Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength. – Corrie ten Boom. Every time you allow worry and anxiety to overwhelm you, you lose your ability to think things through. When your worries and anxieties start to creep in, go on your knees and just start telling God what’s going on in your life and ask Him to fix them. If you don’t feel like praying, put on some Gospel music and start singing along. Or open your Bible and read the Psalms and Proverbs aloud; this may replace the negative thoughts with God’s Word and promises.

What’s the difference between trust and faith?
From a Biblical perspective, trust and faith have the same meaning. However, faith in action means having confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Who do we hope for, but do not see? God and His promises. While, trust in action means forsaking your own thinking and allow God to direct your steps or waiting on Him to fix the situation.

What does faith in God mean?
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, faith is belief and trust in and loyalty to God. According to the Bible in Hebrews 11:1, faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.

What it means to let go and let God?
Jesus explains this concept beautifully in John 14:1 and Matthew 6:25. He said according to John: Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. In Matthew He stated: I tell you not to worry about your life. Don’t worry about having something to eat, drink, or wear. Isn’t life more than food or clothing? In other words, He is saying to stop worrying about anything and anyone, and to consciously surrender your situation to God.

What it means to surrender to God?
To surrender form a Christian perspective means that as a believer in God you completely give up your own will and submit your thoughts, ideas, and actions to the will of God that is mentioned in the Bible. Surrender to God is dying to self. As Paul said in Philippians 1:21: For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Or what He said in Colossians 3:3: You should have as little desire for this world as a dead person does. Your real life is in heaven with Christ and God.
