Top 10 Bible Verses About Protection And Safety From God
Last Updated: 05 February 2020
We, humans, are so fragile and vulnerable that our lives can take a wrong turn in the blink of an eye. There is danger everywhere. Not only physical injury, but often people around us can and will inflict tremendous emotional harm on us – think about hatred, envy, deception, slander, or false accusation.
Therefore, we need God’s divine protection in our life. We desperately need Him to cover us under His wings and shield us from evil.
The following Bible verses about protection will remind you that God promised to be with us and keep us safe. We may rest assured that He will send His angels to watch over us and to destroy all evil lurking behind our doors.
1. Psalm 23:4-5
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
Reflection
Life can and will throw lots of problems our way, but how we react in those adverse moments are sometimes more important than what happened. Do we allow negative talks to cloud our mind? Do we allow fear to take control of our heart? Do we allow anxiety to dictate our decisions and fuel or actions? As a Christian, we know that God is with us. So, we need to ask God to give us a Lion’s Attitude: courage, strength, bravery, fierce, fearless. Walk through the storm holding your head up high. Face the problems and overcome them. Confront our enemies and conquer them.
Pray the verse
Lord God, thank you for walking by my side. Thank you for being there for me when I need you. I ask you to give me a brave and fearless heart. Give me strength to face all the challenges life throws at me and by your grace overcome them all. Amen.
2. Psalm 91:4-7
He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you.
Reflection
There is nothing more comforting to know that we are shielded and protected under God’s wings. The windy storm may come; a violent flood may rise; dark days may approach – but we know that our God will spread His wings and protect us. We know that trials and tribulations will come – and, yes, some will affect us. But, it is the assurance of God’s Presence that gives us confidence. And even if the result of the trial is death, we shouldn’t be troubled because we know where we are heading to.
Pray the verse
Lord of Might and Power, take me under your wings and shield me from the terror by night and the arrows on fire flying during the day. Protect me from diseases and sickness. Don’t allow destruction come near my life, my family and properties. Amen.
3. Isaiah 41:10
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Reflection
Fear is a powerful force. On the one hand, it’s a basic human instinct to protect ourselves and loved ones
from danger and pain – hence fear, it’s a warning signal. On the other hand, that same emotion that should protect us could backfire and work against us. If we allow it, fear can paralyze us and keep us from achieving not only our goals and dreams, but more importantly, peace of mind. We should not allow it to take a hold on our life, and back us into a corner. But, be assured that our Father in Heaven got our back.
Pray the verse
Dear God, remove any trace of fear from my life. Give me your strength and help me realize that you walk by my side and that you will defend me everywhere I go. Amen.
4. Psalm 91:9-12
Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.
Reflection
Choosing Jesus means choosing the way to God. Choosing God means choosing divine protection in this life, and – according to His promise, one day – eternal life. We know that God is there to shield us from harm. We know that He is able to send His angels to protect us from evil. But, even if we must lose our life in this world, we have assurance of salvation – celebrating and enjoying our inheritance as worthy children of the Most High God.
Pray the verse
Oh Lord, you are my refuge and my hiding place. Command your angels to guard me wherever I go and help me out whenever danger is lurking. Amen.
5. Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe.
Reflection
Towers represents many things: they can be a stronghold or a walled garden; a method to ascend to Heaven; places to get a better vantage point; safe dwellings for the oppressed; images of wealth, success, strength and power; or symbols of hope and freedom. Our Lord – who created Heaven and Earth – is all those things and more. We may confidently run to Him and experience His peaceful safety in the midst of all our troubles.
Pray the verse
God my Strong Tower, thank you for being there for me whenever I need you. Thank you for being a safe place where I can run to and hide. Thank you for being my hope, my strength, my banner, and an effective help in times of trouble. Amen.
6. 2 Samuel 22:3-4
God is my rock in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge. My savior, you save me from violence. I call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.
Reflection
God is not only our rock, shield, high tower, and refuge, but He is also our horn of salvation – meaning that He is the one who alert us about danger. That’s why, as Christians, we should always ask God to make us attentive to His voice. This doesn’t mean that we will always hear God’s voice literally. But, God has many ways to get our attention: think about a sudden urge in your heart; an unexpected visitor; a message from a stranger on the street, a sermon on the Internet or an unexpected Bible quote on our Facebook feed – they are too many to mention. The point is that God works in mysterious ways and as His children we should always be open to His calls of warning.
Pray the verse
Dear Lord, you are the horn of my salvation. Please, make me attentive to your voice. Help me pay attention when you send clues in my ways to warn me of danger. Amen.
7. Psalm 34:7
God’s angel encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Reflection
To fear God doesn’t mean we are cowering and trembling in terror for Him. But, we fear Him by obeying Him and thus living in accordance to His Word. And as a result of our obedience, God who is faithful will command His angels to shield our life, family and properties. And as many of us know already, even if His angels don’t protect us in this world, our final destination – which is eternal life in Heaven – is secured with Him.
Pray the verse
Heavenly Father, you are great and powerful. You created your angels to serve you. Please order them to encamp around my life, my family, my properties, and anything else dear to my heart. Allow them to protect us and fight our battles. Amen.
8. Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
Reflection
We are living in a fallen world. We will have to deal with bad people and stressful situations whether we want it or not. And many times, some people plan meticulously how to hurt us. Think about that boss who wants to find something to fire us, those colleagues trying to upset us, bullies trying to trap us, thieves roaming our house to find a way to break in, those nasty scammers on the internet, or that third person who wants to ruin our marriage. Yeah, unfortunately these things happen more often than we would like to admit. Therefore, we should be vigilant and ask God – every single day – to disarm and expose all evil plans against us.
Pray the verse
God of the Universe, In the Holy Name of Jesus, I declare right now that every weapon formed against me shall not prevail. Every plan to destroy my life shall not come to fruition. Every tongue of condemnation, and judgment shall be silenced. Every word of offence, malice and ill-will spoken over my life are now broken. So be it, Amen.
9. Psalm 17:8-9
Keep me as the apple of your eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who surround me.
Reflection
This is what every single one of us are for our Heavenly Father: the apple of His eyes. God loves us and He cherishes us above all other created thing. Since we belong to Him, we can rest assured in His presence and allow Him to work on our behalf.
Pray the verse
Abba Father, thank you for making me the apple of your eyes. Thank you for loving me and – through Jesus – make me worthy to receive your mercy, grace and loving-kindness. Please, keep me safe by hiding me under your shadow. Protect me from those who want to hurt me. Do not allow them to have their way in my life. Amen.
10. Psalm 140:4
Oh Lord, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet.
Reflection
Have you ever find yourself in a circumstance where people are intentionally trying to trip your feet and beat you down? Unfortunately, those people exist, and they are many. There are some people out there who think that it’s their personal duty to keep you from receiving what you deserve. We should never allow them. We should speak up and defend our cause, but also go to the throne of Grace and pray for them.
Pray the verse
Holy Father, don’t allow me to fall in hands of bad people. Hide me from their prying eyes, confuse their minds, hinder their plans, and stop them in their tracks. Amen.
